Evidence & Validation

The 2001-2002 financial year saw several good outcomes with Blackmores’ products in clinical trials. Trials completed include Blackmores Executive B Stress Formula™, Blackmores BioACE® Excell with Selenium, and a smaller study with Blackmores Hyperiforte®.

The Blackmores Executive B study was an intervention study in persons with work-related stress. It was conducted at the Brain Sciences Institute and Department of Neuropsychopharmacology, University of Swinburne, Victoria.

Another study, also conducted at the Brain Sciences Institute and Department of Neuropsychopharmacology, University of Swinburne, Victoria, compared Blackmores Hyperiforte® to two competitive hypericum products using quantitative human electroencephalography (EEG).

Blackmores had previously conducted a trial with young persons using Blackmores’ original BioACE® Excell and measuring blood markers of antioxidant activity and also heat shock proteins. The study was published in the journal Free Radicals in Biological Medicine in 2000. Another trial was conducted with the newer Blackmores BioACE® Excell with Selenium, this time in older persons, again at the University of New England and also looking at antioxidant status and heat shock protein production.

The results of these studies await publication, and will contribute to the convincing level of evidence validating the efficacy of Blackmores’ formulations.
